The healing properties of Kos are not limited to hospitals. This mostly flat island, dotted with two small peaks, is a sunny, soul-lifting piece Greek island paradise. It has beautiful beaches, picturesque villages, and a lively atmosphere. Tourism is the islands main industry, and the capital, Kos Town, can sometimes be overwhelmed with buzzing resorts and love youth, but if you are out to get in the serene countryside, surrounded by ruins and green fields, colorful villages and rustic tavernas, you Kos is the most authentic experience.Because the island is mostly flat, it is easily seen by bike, and bikes can be rented on the island. You could start your sightseeing by bike along the northern coastline to Tigaki Beach, just 10 km from Kos town. Shallow waters and gentle surf Tigaki make a nice family beach, ditto for Marmari Beach, just 10 km west of Tigaki. For a more waves, the head just 5 miles west to Mastahari that many family restaurants fronting the beach. On the south side of the island (which can be reached by bus or car from Kos Town), Kefolos has beautiful ivory sands and sparkling sea. It s an easy swim to the small island just off the beach, which is the monastery of St. Nicolas.The Kos beaches are lucky, but a visit to the Asklepeion is a must for visitors to Kos. The ancient ruins are located in an area just 4 km west of Kos Town. The buildings are very set on four terraces connected by a marble staircase. Among them, the temple is a Doric temple Asklepeion which was built in the 2nd century BC The Stoa here once housed Hippocrates s medical school.
